Because I was going to see Tosca (an opera) today downtown directly from school, I didn\’t want to bring my bag. I mean, who cares a messenger bag with a laptop into an opera. Especially into $86 seats? So I left my bag with a fellow student at the lab who would be there until at least 11:30 pm.

So on the way back, my friends were trying convince me to go home without getting my bag since we were on bus line directly to my house. I refused. I mean, the idea of not going home without my laptop makes me feel disoriented. Ok, so I could use my desktop, but I hate its roar.

But then when I finally got home (about 40 minutes later), I realized I have this thing with my computer that I prefer doing. I mean, I can survive without it but my day feels incomplete. Just like how I like taking a shower right before sleeping. If I don\’t, I just can\’t…feel complete (whoa a sign of getting old). So nightly, I…

  • return the e-mail that I often read during the day and ignore
  • read my gmail
  • check flickr for comments on my photos and see if any of my contacts have new photos
  • fwd some e-mails, send out more e-mails
  • blog a post
  • listen to my itunes and listen to the song of the moment at least 10 times before I sleep
  • read blogs and post comments
  • xanga it, xanga it again, and xanga
  • read lj friends
  • check own blog for comments
  • check sitemeter
  • actually do work on the projects so i don\’t feel guilty in the morning – this only means about 2 minutes on each thing
  • check the weather
  • check ical
  • check my to-dos list
  • check my birthday widget
  • and lastly, im people…bother them and bug them to death

By the way, Tosca is my favorite opera now. The second and third act are my favorites. The reason why obviously are: death, dying, and tragedy combined with jealousy and love. Woohoo!

Things I learned this weekend:

  • beer pong is a game consisting of 9 cups on each of the side table half-filled with beer where opposing players try to \”knock\” out a cup by throwing a ping pong ball into the cup; the opposing team must drink the cup of beer that is \”knocked out\”
  • stay away from the guy waving a permanent marker
  • if a police officer is called to a party where he sees two people swing dancing through the front window, it\’s no cause to cite a noise violation because that\’s truly young people having fun
  • I can still withstand any huge level of peer pressure to drink. woohoo!
  • Having someone sit across four people with me under the most weight…is actually quite suffocating
  • I am the only one I know who believed staying a little bit means about 1.5 hour
  • other people aren\’t as good at keeping track of time at a party
  • the pick-up line do you yahooo? does not work (on me)
  • GPS systems for cars are quite accurate
  • route 28 from Pittsburgh to North PA is actually quite a nice drive if you\’re with good company (and good music)
  • Ben actually played bass in a band and no the name of the band was not My Band
  • you can really finish a SAUI (programming) project on the way to Clearfield from Pittsburgh
  • there are still some gas stations out there that don\’t use a credit card machine at each pump
  • some burgers in real life are really larger than they look in pictures
  • sadly, I don\’t think I can ever finish a 2 lb burger
  • the pub challenge does not allow one to use silverware, anybody\’s help, but you can obviously use your drinks to help you
  • the bun and the patty are quite good
  • the 6 lb burger takes 1.5 hour to cook and the 15 lb burger takes 3 hours to cook. might be a good idea to call ahead of time to order.
  • the pub is generally full of large men who think they can finish large plates of food
  • only 2 (small) women have ever finished the 6 lb burger
  • a large family of 11 people cannot even finish the 15 lb burger. they had a quarter left when they were about done.
  • so what if you don\’t win, a t-shirt only costs $15. no clothing tax in PA!
  • people from over 9 countries have come to attempt the burger
  • the servers don\’t keep track of whether any of the contestants have gone to the bathroom to purge during the 3 hour time limit for the 6 lb burger
  • Punxsutawney, home of Groundhog Phil made famous in the movie Groundhog Day, is only two hours away from Pittsburgh
  • a medium size soft serve cone is actually quite large by my standards
  • Dave loves John Deere, especially its toys
  • Carol will always drive faster than Ben, by any means
  • attempting the 6 lb burger means that I won\’t feel hungry for at least 2 days
  • If you arrive at the theater 10 minutes pass the showing time, the movie will not have started yet
  • Cameron Crowe\’s new movie Elizabethtown was actually quite a disappointment
  • A movie full of sideways glances, one-liners, great music, great imagery does not equal a great movie
  • Trailers are deceiving
  • leftover burgers still make great meatballs in pasta
  • it takes at least two boxes of Jiffy cornbread to make a loaf and 6 muffins
  • there are some people who are naturally indecisive and deciding something for them is easier than persuading them to make a decision
  • the view of Pittsburgh is always beautiful from Mt. Washington at night
  • don\’t attempt to bring a \”picnic dinner\” to Mt. Washington and expect to eat it outside in mid-October. it\’s too windy and too cold.
  • the way I pronounce certain words will amuse people no matter what
  • even as much as I don\’t want to watch tv, I will always find myself downstairs with my roommate watching Desperate Housewives and Grey\’s Anatomy every Sunday night
  • Parker House and Theory will come to play at CMU!
  • Out of boredom and cataloging my tastes…a movie meme. This is the top 100 movies from imdb. The meme asks to bold all the movies I have seen. But how about the movies where I spent 20 minutes watching then get distracted or lose interest. Maybe I will italicize these! I am disappointed that I haven\’t watched the majority of the movies, especially the older ones.

    A new year! Welcome 2004.

Goodbye to the year 2003. The year that will forever known to be as the year of DRAMAH!

    This year, I…

  • figured out what relationships were worth saving
  • made friendships with people I normally wouldn\’t associate myself with
  • figured out my future career
  • met Alecky in person for the first time!
  • had two Ghiradelli earthquakes – mostly drank by a straw
  • drove every day 2.5 hour roundtrip to an internship in Santa Clara
  • went to four bars and did not drink alcohol at all
  • had only a good time at one of the four bars…on my 21st birthday
  • still have not exercised my right of being 21
  • had the best birthday dinner ever even if only a quarter of the people I invited showed up
  • flew out of state by myself to Minny Soda to meet TWO BOYZ!!!
  • still am indecisive of singledom and attachedness
  • finally attained a research position at GUIR which I had been desiring for almost 2 years – in actuality, only took 2 e-mails to accomplish the job!
  • finally felt at ease in a class group, where nobody was a leader and everybody played the role in a team
  • communicated with each of my EXes once this year in a surprise move – a random phone call for one and a surprise visit to his work for the other
  • drove all the way to San Francisco just to have dinner at the best Japanese restaurant ever
  • went all the way to Frisco just to watch Matrix Reloaded in the UA Coronet at midnight
  • used my futon for other purposes than just a place to fling my clothes
  • woke up at 5:30 am to buy over $300+ of merchandise on Black Friday
  • visited UCSC and Stanfurd for the very first time
  • met my cousin and his girlfriend (possibly his finance) after nearly 5 years of not seeing each other…they moved to the Bay Area about 3 months later
  • spent 3 hours in the local supermarket…researching how they categorize products in the store for a class paper
  • realized the power of study groups and cafes
  • caused positively.cpnet to break apart when the war threads started…and the whole forum eventually fell apart about 5 months later
  • made certain boys dislike me – tee hee!
  • subletted my apartment to a student who did grad school in London
  • found that people always liked giving gifts; they always forget my mantra of presence > present
  • sponsored Rekuytn instead of participating in the blogathon
  • seemed the most drunk at a number of parties although I was the only one who did not drink alcohol!
  • argued about alcohol too many times this year, regretted bringing the topic into conversation every single time
  • returned to my senior high school mindset – there is always a silver lining in every gray cloud
  • learned what spooning meant – yes I am a naive little girl
  • am a ENFJ!!! Okay, I just had to throw in a web quiz
  • got an A…in….LINGUISTICS
  • have been used extensively as a source of computer help
  • got an I\’m blogging this t-shirt
  • learned that Berkeley is not the safety school of America
  • aching, breaking last day of the semester

  • woke up at 8 am by some RANDOM noises outside
  • walked all the way to Soda Hall (15 minute walk UPHILL) to return the laptop I have had for the entire semester
  • confessed my sins to them. basically, how I broke the dongle one night after \”throwing\” my laptop on the floor after a drawn-out drama on AIM
  • asked them if they were going to reformat the laptop
  • one responded that he didn\’t even have time to even look at…my stuff
  • not that there is any stuff there except all the logs of my evil plans
  • went up one flight to the CSUA lounge
  • saw someone I knew who has ignored me for most of the semester
  • ate my lunch
  • last minute studying for my Artificial Intelligence final
  • walk to the Hearst Gym and have to push my way through some anxious students smoking outside
  • take final. open book, open notes. still hard. use up all 3 hours.
  • return to apartment, study for next final.
  • get to Haas. suddenly 10 minutes until the final I realize that I forget my scantron and am about to run back to my apartment to get one.
  • see a friend who lends me not one, but two scantrons
  • one of the GSIs who I have bugged for help the last two weeks says HI to me. he never recognized me before even when I have always been 15 minutes late to his 9 am section.
  • take visual perception final. hands die out of exhaustion from writing for 3 hours straight.
  • eat dinner at Gypsys with Mae
  • we gossip about people
  • a lot!
  • show my apartment to Mae who is pleasantly surprised
  • show Mae how many times Tram has been visiting my site. I KNOW YOU ARE VISITING MY SITE MANY TIMES TRAM. 5 TIMES A DAY, WHEN I ONLY UPDATE IT ONCE?!?!?! tee hee!
  • Mae says that me knowing that Tram visits is more scarier than her visiting several times a day
  • get a slightly \”shocking\” e-mail
  • spend time trying to unzip a file. download all the appropriate applications including QuickSFV, StuffItExpander, versions of Divx, etc. etc. etc.
  • the usual GOSSIP + DRAMAH
  • have a pseudo-deep conversation with someone that I did not intend to have, it ended up with me saying that I only wanted people to listen not give advice and once I did that, the other person seemed to lose interest in the conversation completely. who knew?
  • cook my two eggs
  • talk to my sister on the phone
  • Rekuytn really likes my name and thinks I am a hipster
  • my mom calls me at 11 pm?!
  • watch a movie that nobody else would ever watch with ME – Pieces of April (finally a movie that Katie Holmes doesn\’t do her oh so common pout)
  • DAY LIST since I cannot possibly summarize what oh so exciting things happened to me today

  • woke up at 4 am by my sister who was leaving for San Diego WITH my integra
  • sniffle
  • my mom barged into my room at 7:30 am saying that it was 7:$5 am and that it was time to wake up
  • woke up at 8 am
  • returned to Berkeley, dropped all my stuff in my apartment
  • got to the Princeton Review practice LSAT on campus
  • proceeded to have a three hour long nauseating headache over logic games, reading passages and an essay
  • worked on a cs160 project with group
  • my fabulous ibm thinkpad laptop (yes i get a laptop because i take the class) died as it ran out of battery power
  • argued/debated/chatted with my group for 2.5 hours because SOMEONE was 30 minutes late
  • walked all the way to my apartment with one of my group members. she made me remember how bright-eyed, bushy-tailed i was coming out of high school
  • dropped off my stuff and proceeded to pull a guilt trip on Peggy
  • sat in Peggy\’s apartment and successfully convinced her to go to a party where she would only know a few people
  • we walked approximately a mile up a hill with me pulling her up every single step while she complained about the steepness and spiders that were inhabiting the side of the roads
  • Peggy went on to call the party a dry college party because simply most people there (including me) did not drink
  • I only like to eat the inside of sandwiches
  • Vikas teases me again for my fervor for blogging – she can\’t keep herself away from the computer that long!!!
  • I have to keep up with Vikas\’ brisk walking to keep up with him as we walk back with two other BBQ-goers
  • how did I get convinced to see Underworld…with SETH
  • yeah see above
  • my good friend Alex makes fun of this for awhile JAEGA MOLD THAT
  • And then some:

  • updated my star profile yesterday night due to Lele\’s coercion. I last updated just a little under a year ago
  • Today was one of those dim sum with grandparents weekend but I had decided to stay in my apartment until Sunday morning. I had asked that my parents call before they came, but they didn\’t and the doorbell got integrated into a nightmare I was having. I trudged over to the intercom and let my mom/grandmother in. My grandmother started to observe how it was a pigsty and I shooed them back out. Got ready in 10 minutes and stepped outside. They weren\’t there and I had gotten the impression that they ditched me. Went back inside and collapsed on my bed.
  • Surprise: they didn\’t ditch me. They just wanted to show the wonders of Telegraph Avenue and People\’s Park to my grandmother
  • helped Xing yesterday do open house for her apartment. success!
  • got an A+ on a linguistics midterm. I RAWK!!!!

  • the bad:

  • missed this workshop because I just HAD to finish my perl hw…that I eventually turned in incomplete
  • how I procrastinated all night long so that I will freak out on the stuff due next week
  • Highlights of the Last Few Days

At Karen\’s b-day, I saw someone that I had broken connections with. Needless to say, I wasn\’t surprised that I saw him say in his lj…\”Jenn also showed up, which was quite unexpected. Was able to ignore her for the most part, which was easy enough since she sat far enough away for me to do so.\” Thanks, I think.

    Got introduced to ahem…porn. EW?

DID NOT GET FOOLED ON APRIL FOOLS. With the exception of last week when Cheez and Ben fooled me into thinking that Duluth has mosquitos everywhere during the summer and that they have to wear bug suits during July to avoid being bitten. It backfired when I said I didn\’t want to go anymore…

Ate dorm food because I was tabling for work there. Wow. Oh so good. *sarcasm*

Cog sci got cancelled on Tuesday because the prof was sick. That was one of the happiest days this semester. :)

    PARTICIPATED IN APRIL FOOLS.

my domains-jennism.com and unoccupied.org-have fully propagated! I am still undecided what I should do at either domain though.

Found out about Better Luck Tomorrow on a blog that I just happened to be reading. AND AFTER READING A BITTY OF THIS AND THAT, I got intrigued. Saw the trailer. Oddly enough, it reminds me a lot of myself in high school. AND BEST PART, of all the places that it is getting released, it is going to be playing HERE IN BERKELEY next Friday April 11. WOOHOO. SO WHO ELSE IS GOING TO SEE IT YOU ALL LIVING IN THE BOONIES. The film is a controversial independent about asian americans in the suburb. AND MORE! It took nearly an hour to find somebody who wanted to see it as much as I did. It isn\’t racist, because you can\’t really avoid asian stereotypes in movies since most asians aren\’t that prevalent in films. Go see it when it\’s released…if it\’s going to be released in your town!
