I am always under this philosophy that if I am generous, then good things will come. Is it true?

I often say that I don\’t believe in karma, but my act of generosity often contradicts that. I buy people\’s dinner or whatever because I know that this is the building of a relationship. If I am nice to someone, then they will be nice to me. A part of myself is sacrificed for the hope that the future will be better.

  1. the majority of the time, the size of my good deed generally coincides with the size of the shaft i get rammed with… i generally help individuals on whim, if i can, with no intention of recompense. because honestly, helping generally puts me into the role of \”sucker\”… so i would say, don\’t bother doing \”good deeds\” unless the act itself is the only gratification you\’re hoping for.

  2. partly, i seek the gratification of a generous act. yet i rationalize it. for example, I accidentally told my new roommates that the rent was $475/month when management suddenly told me that the rent was raised (I wasn\’t aware that I had resigned a lease that raised the rent). So being nice, I said that I would pay the first $25 but the rent will be $500 for the following months. is that being nice or just being reasonable?

  3. hmm..that is being nice..but also reasonable. I would\’ve just told them to pay up since I am a cheapie! :D

  4. if you\’re nice to someone, generally it\’ll change their attitude toward you, unless of course they\’re a user. it can go both ways depending on the person. if i know someone will sacrifice for me, then i will do it,…but if not..then i have to fight with my urge to \”just be nice\”
