Last year, I found Nimda on my computer. Blargh.

Then today because I did some security risk-taking the last week (connecting my computer directly to the Internet, using Mirc for file downloads and of course letting my computer run KAZAA for more than 10 minutes) I decided to run scan my computer for virii. To my dismay, I was infected not by just one virus, but two virii!!! First the I got Spybot, which evidently I had recieved as a result of being on Kazaa for awhile. And worse yet, Norton also discovered that I had Welchia, the so-called \”good\” worm that fights the Blaster. In the dorms, the Network Security team had been shutting the Internet off for students who had Blaster or Welchia on their computers. Plus, the team also shut down people who were not patched for the virus. And for the last two weeks, I had been running around with a CD that had the power to patch and remove virus. Apparently, I got the virus the five minutes that I had directly connected my computer to the Internet.

It\’s funny how the good Welchia (it kills the blaster worm and tries to install the microsoft patch) is still considered bad…because it still behaves like a worm. Like someone said at their blog, if Batman were a real person, he should be arrested; breaking the law is breaking the law, whatever your intentions.

Speaking of the Blaster, I found THIS very amusing. The fact that Microsoft switched over to Linux servers when its Windows servers couldn\’t stand the attacks from the Blaster worm.
