  1. \”ok\”
    \”fine\”
    \”good\”
etc. b/c i figure either 1. people don\’t really want to know; they\’re asking to be polite, or 2. if i\’m feeling bad, i don\’t want to bring them down, or vice versa, if they\’re feeling down and i had the most amazing news, i\’d make them feel worse. or 3. i just don\’t feel like telling said person how i feel.

  2. \”Can I help you find anything today?\”
At work I generally don\’t respond with an actual answer concerning my current amount of displeasure. I hate when people say they don\’t need help with anything, then two seconds later realize that they did come in to buy something in particular and make me turn back around and ask what system they want it on.

  3. i usually just ask \”how are you?\”. i figure if they really want to know, they\’ll figure it out.

  4. it seems that people ask that question out of a polite gesture rather than wanting to know the truth. Western societies are like this–to display compassion is a way to \”connect\” with each other.
