In Berkeley, I went home so often that I rarely had anything significant to blog about. That is, I rarely blogged about my life, but always blogged about what I thought and felt. And it seems so weird to me that I avoid doing all of that now. Only slipping words of what I felt from the things I did.

There\’s this line we want what hurts us the most and behind all the choices and things I do, it\’s almost signifying what I am missing right now.

Personally, I hate dropping names. But I notice that everyone does it. So for my own bio purposes, I will too.

On Thursday, to my surprise, my housemate had invited almost the entire hci program to watch the presidential debate on our mini tv. I didn\’t know about it until I arrived home being welcomed by a living room populated with my fellow classmates. Right now, we have a queen-sized bed and a couch serving as our seating arrangments. The debate was obviously won by Kerry.

The following night, I didn\’t want to be caught moping in my room. So I went to see Going Upriver with Jeff (and some people who arrived fashionably late). Again, it was the more political people of the program. Strangely enough, I realized that most people in the program are liberals. Isn\’t that usually the case of college students? Is it because we know we won\’t ever have to volunteer for the army, that we are liberals? Pennsylvania is a swing state, a state unlike California, that is vital in the final election. Going Upriver put Kerry on a pedestal, highlighting his achievements, particularly his well-deserved moment of talking about his experience in Vietnam. Lesson: If you want to protest about some injustice, make a difference by appearing calm and collected. Do tantrums really help?

Yesterday, instead of heading to a rap concert in downtown Pittsburgh, I was able to convince several fellow students (people who rarely come out – Charles, Shannon, Polo) to see…HARRY POTTER. :) Only one dollar on campus. To my disappointment, it wasn\’t as good as the first two. Maybe it was just me and the poor theater acoustics (who says seeing a movie in a room meant to be a lecture room is going to be good). Maybe I am getting old, but I had a hard time following. Not to mention, I also could sense how old the actors and actresses were getting. I got a feeling how the Harry Potter series could turn into a series of random sitcoms. Not a full-fledged story. Books are always better. After the movie, I played Jenga with a few people. Not surprisingly, I was the one who knocked the tower over because of my unsteady hand and my tendency to get excited. As a result, I paid for half of the \”dinner\”. Food is half-off in Pittsburgh after 11 pm. My third time at Joe Mama\’s.

And today, again, I went shopping with Kun. And today was the first time that someone thought we were going out since we go shopping together every other weekend when he wants to rent a car. NO. WAY. He\’s my friend\’s boyfriend and has this pseudo-offensive sense of humor. I finally got a dining table and 4 chairs for the house. I spent a lot of time at the scary super walmart. Then went to South Hills Mall which was reminiscient of Sunvalley Mall in concord. As usual, I bought nothing because I am picky and cheap. Then I went to see a play named Broadway with Helen. We were the youngest people there! Or at least almost everyone was at least 50+. And we were the only asians. At first, I was disappointed at how dull the play was initially, but it got better. Yet, the play reminded me of a typical musical where all the emotions were very upfront and there was really little need for REAL acting. It seemed that anyone could break into a song and dance number. I\’ll be waiting for the next play. Helen already…suggested an opera. I am going to get cultured!

I am now using my new lcd monitor off my powerbook. A dual monitor setup. It took me more than 2 years to convince myself to buy a lcd. One major reason was that I didn\’t want to lug my crt to Pittsburgh. Then it took another 2 months to decide what kind of lcd. I had ordered a 19\” Viewsonic monitor 3 weeks ago, but because it was such an amazing deal, it was on backorder. I cancelled it 2 weeks later and spent a whole week annoyed that I still could not use my desktop (this is the desktop that I took on the plane as carry-on and where a fellow passenger commented \”you\’ve got a big laptop there\”). And so I finally decided on a Dell e173 (not ultrasharp).

On Thursday, I got my box and walked around Wean Hall hugging the box.
